Personal Reflective Review

The following post will discuss my personal reflection and review of our group’s performance in the creation of our blogs with our own organisation OMEGA Manchester. Our group, OMEGA Manchester created an appraisal related to email marketing; formed a video marketing pitch for the Maker’s Market, justification for our selection of campaign ideas and list of references that were used during this process. Throughout our group work we planned different approaches on how to attend to the appraisal and marketing pitch.

Ultimately, we selected the Maker’s Market and decided to focus on email marketing as our platform. The Maker’s Market was a justifiable choice to select for our marketing pitch as the Maker’s Market, a successful organisation who attract lots of attention domestically, were not targeting potential customers with email marketing. This was prominent in our opinions due to email marketing growing in its usage gradually, with email marketing allowing organisations to build relationships with customers and gain new customers. (Sean, 2019). Moreover, with email having around 3.9 billion users it would be a great idea to target such an extensive demographic. (Campaign Monitor, 2019).

Collectively, as a group I felt as if our communication in the early stages was poor. This was down to not creating any form of communication between ourselves as we didn’t get our personal details. Situations where this arose was when one of us had completed work and only being able to communicate on our progression during university hours. We overcame this by creating a WhatsApp group which would help us answer any queries. Additionally, we listed all our emails so that we could send work to each other much easily. Substantially, our decision-making throughout was substandard as we continuously changed our strategy. This applied to our video as we couldn’t decide on the method we would like to create it. Overall, from this perspective I feel our pitch to the Maker’s Market was rushed as we didn’t make a decision earlier which would have allowed us more time to create a more polished marketing pitch.

Despite, these negatives we did collaborate successfully by utilising all our skills which was seen in the marketing pitch where I helped in the aiding of the script because of my past experience writing screenplays for the Arts and Humanities Research Council; David creating the video because of his extensive IT skills and everyone else forming the appraisal because of their report writing skills. Moreover, after creating an effective communication line we were able to constructively develop great time management for our meetings and structure when we should complete tasks by setting deadlines.

In conclusion looking back at this group work next time I feel personally, I could step up more and contribute more effectively, to make sure there is communication between the group members via email and phone. As a group I would also, recommend us creating a detailed plan on how we aim to approach the tasks as well as making decisions more constructively by hearing out everyone’s opinions.
